Stoke’s Ceramics on the Silver Screen

In 2021, the film The Colour Room brought the story of ceramic artist Clarice Cliff to life. Filmed on location in Stoke-on-Trent, the movie showcased the rich history of the city’s pottery industry. We at Ceramic 77 are renowned mould makers in Stoke-on-Trent. We are honoured to have our finished pieces featured in the film’s set design, highlighting the craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.

Stoke-on-Trent: The Heart of British Ceramics

Stoke-on-Trent, often referred to as the “Potteries,” has been the epicentre of British ceramics for centuries. The city’s rich industrial heritage is evident in its historic sites, many of which served as filming locations for The Colour Room. Notably, the Gladstone Pottery Museum and Middleport Pottery were used to depict the working environment of Clarice Cliff during her apprenticeship (Historic England).

These locations, with their preserved bottle kilns and workshops, provided an authentic backdrop that transported audiences back to the early 20th century, immersing them in the world of ceramics.
